Electrification of rural areas in Africa through different types of off-grid or Micro-grid solutions is the area in the energy business proposed to grow the most during the coming years. The electricity needs in rural areas are vast and at the same time high voltage transmission grids are not economically viable to build to these areas. This means that micro-grids or off-grids is a highly interesting way of electrification in rural areas even if production costs tend to be higher than centralized Power production. Solar PV and Storage is estimated to be the main Components in micro-grids. What specific technologies that will be dominant is still to be seen.
